This was exactly what I needed to help keep the weight (23lbs) off my shoulders a little bit compared to standard backpacks. When on a leash, my dog gets overwhelmed walking in noisey places or when a bunch of people walking near us. With this MEDIUM size carrier, I could maneuver this little dog wherever I wanted and he seemed to be able to feel safe and comfortable.
Shiba dogs are not very tall, but have longer bodies to where you likey will want to make sure you have them strapped in enough where they don't slide left or right side of your back. Their necks are a little longer than other dogs out there so mine was secure though was able to see in all directions when he wanted. We used this Knavigate sack to take our dog out to San Francisco, walked around town for hours. I was not sure of how my dog's rear legs might get fatigued while riding in this carrier or maybe rubbing on his front legs, but he seemed to get a little squirmy after 4 hours. Now, TBH, I am not sure if he got restless or if it was discomfort. We did take little breaks here and there yet I recommend taking 2 hour stretch breaks with your dog to make sure they are doing okay. I think having them on your back for the first time is best when you are with another person who can watch your dogs face/behavior to see if they are handling it well or if maybe they need some adjustments. I had wondered at first about what postion the front legs should be in (at shoulder, or knee?), but it may just depend on the dog. I noticed my dog would move them around. The only other thing I might say to watch out for is the tail position when you strap them in. I tried to leave a little room for his tail to shift if needed. The best way I could get my dog in the sack was to have it laying on the ground (Unzipped and open) and make them sit on the back part. Then, you can pull front paws through the 2 holes. Easier to do this with 2 people. If you are having to push your dogs upper half down hard to get that zipper going up, you may need to buy the bigger size bag. I think I started with Small but ended up getting a Medium.
This was fun, and I think because I am taller people were seeing a dog at eye level unexpectedly, so it was catching people's attention and smiles.
Thanks for letting exchange my first order and helping me get the right size @K9SportSack!
