Healthy Pet, Healthy Home
In today’s world, it’s no surprise that a hot topic being discussed is how to stay healthy. Whether it’s precautions you should be taking at your local grocery store or the importance of washing your hands, 2020 has been all about staying in good health.
As of 2016, 68% of US households own some sort of pet. While taking care of ourselves, it’s just as important to stay up to date on how to keep your pets healthy indoors and outdoors. After all, your pet already depends entirely on you for their diet, exercise, and shelter along with their overall health.
While doing research on pet health, we were able to consult a local veterinarian to help us better understand common health risks your dog faces. Here are some of the top health threats that dogs are currently facing:
-
Fleas and ticks
-
Giardia
-
Parvo
-
Harmful bacteria and germs
Fleas and Ticks
Fleas and ticks can be very prevalent when outdoor exploring or even around your own home. It’s crucial to be mindful of your surroundings and check your dog on a frequent basis for any signs. If you go to a known area where these pests are common, many K9 Sport Sack users love having it handy to keep their dog off the ground.
Another recommendation is keeping your dog groomed and clean. Skout's Honor grooming line can be used in conjunction with your flea and tick treatments to help with irritation, inflammation, and giving your pups the best advantage at keeping these pests at bay.
Giardia
Giardia is a highly contagious parasite that dogs ingest. The parasite can be found in things like drinking water, grass, and dog feces. It can cause diarrhea, weight loss, vomiting, and dehydration. Proper hygiene is very helpful to prevent this. With Skout’s Honor Paw + Hand sanitizer you can prevent the spread of such parasites by eliminating the giardia cysts. This product can be topically applied all over your pup, you and even your gear giving you the peace of mind knowing you've done your diligence in staying safe.
Also, if you find yourself with your pet in an area highly trafficked by other animals, the K9 Sport Sack can allow you to keep your dog away from potential risks to Giardia. Always remember the best offense is a great defense!
Parvo
Parvo is another highly contagious virus that spreads through contact with other infected dogs or other contaminated objects. Dogs can be exposed to the virus as easily as sniffing or licking these objects. Puppies 6 weeks to 6 months are the most susceptible to Parvo. Until your puppy has received all of the required Parvo vaccines, the K9 Sport Sack serves as a great option to avoid direct contact with other dogs. We see many customers use their carrier to help their puppy socialize during this sensitive time.
Harmful Bacteria and Germs
According to a recent survey given to pet owners across the United States, 1 in 3 owners are unaware that their pet’s toys collect germs, dirt, and other bacteria. Of those same pet owners, 1 in 5 will wait over a month to properly sanitize their toys, beds, feeding accessories, or play areas.
Germs and bacteria are very prevalent on each of these items which can then be passed to others living in the same household. Not only do dogs pick up germs and bacteria indoors, but can easily do the same outdoors. Proper cleaning and disinfecting is critical to your dog’s overall health!
Skout’s Honor Adventure Dog kit was created especially for dogs and their owners who love the outdoors. It is perfect for use before, during and after an outdoor adventure with your best friend. At home or on the go, this kit has you covered. Keep your pet's coat and skin healthy and clean, destroying any nasty odor from sweat, wet dog or dirty gear. Also, protect and moisture paws and noses which are often susceptible to drying and cracking due to harsh weather and tough trails.
The K9 Sport Sack is a great option to avoid unwanted germs, dirt, and unexpected baths. If you plan on going to any highly trafficked locations such as using the subway or busy sidewalks, the K9 Sport Sack works great keeping your dog off the ground when needed.
In closing, there is a wide range of solutions available to help maintain your dog’s overall health. The most important thing you can do as a pet owner is to be aware of the situations and locations you put your dog into. Having the tools necessary is your key to having a healthy pet and healthy home!

Thank you for reminding us how important and to be careful when we take our dogs to outdoor activities! I think we really need to be careful especially at doggie parks because I heard one of the doggie had played with toys where has been there for long time and other dogs were playing with it too and then got virus/sick. Better play only with your toys that you brought with you..!
Also this always catches my eyes but there are so many owners walking their dogs under the hot sun which the ground’s SO HOT!!! They need to re-think where and when to walk their babies. If you’re going out on daytime, there’s one solution.. get your K9 Sport Sack! Always great to have and will help you in any situations!!
